Tranquil Productions is highly passionate about Hip hop culture and the values Hip Hop holds within it. Although the main discipline for the business is focused around breakin (breakdancing) we feel that for Bboys and Bgirls to truly excel, you must understand the other elements of Hip Hop. There are said to be 4 but in our experience, in the North of the UK, there are 5. DJing, Grafitti, Breakin, Rapping/MCing are the 4 original elements of Hip Hop but in the UK we developed having a 5th element, Beat Boxing at the heart of the culture.
In light of this Tranquil Productions decided to support the next generation of young bboys and bgirls in Bradford by offering
the opportunity to visit the Bradford Literature Festival at a subsidised rate covering 50% of the costs for those that wanted to attend.
On Friday they went to visit Akala, Lowkey & Layfullstop, three prominent MCs, at the Alhambra Theatre for an amazing evening of Hip Hop.
Here is what Himani (Bgirl Labyrinth) had to say about the evening:
“It was amazing! To have a Hip Hop night at the Bradford Literature Festival is incredible. The live band that played with
Layfullstop had me, Kye (Bboy 1K) & Chloe (Bgirl Spider) bopping our heads and the DJs made us wish that there was some space to cypher!
What struck me the most, aside from the performances themselves, was the turnout. It was great to see a packed theatre for this. The energy was positive & the crowd was responsive to the artists and their lyrical content. With mainstream rap being the way that it is, Artists like Akala, Lowkey & Layfullstop are that much more important. They bring substance back to the music. They use their pen to create dialogue and invoke emotion, and they aren’t afraid to tackle tough subject matters. These things are so important and I’m so glad that the organisers of the Bradford Literature Festival set aside a night for Hip Hop. I hope to see more of this in the years to come!”
As Tranquil Productions grows and expands we hope to continue to support cultural events that further the development of the next generation of dancers in Bradford. We were happy to support the Bradford Literature Festival and we hope that Bradford gains more events that spread the amazing God given knowledge of Hip Hop.
