The origin story of this incredible Bradford bgirl and her rise to winning the Tranquil Productions Cup in 2022 and claiming the title, breaker of the year, is an exciting story that began over 10 years ago. We are excited to celebrate her journey, especially as we get ready for the Breaker of the Year battle 2023, taking place at Tech Styles 8 on Friday 24th of November.
Our first encounter begins with Spider in Bradford City Park 2013, where she watched in amazement from the crowd, as Clean North performed one of their signature showcases. Immediately after their show, Clean North opened the floor to lead a workshop with the audience. Before they could say anything, Spider without hesitation approached the leader of the crew, bboy Tranquil and jumped into a clean headspin drill, with no hat, on concrete! They could not believe her straight rawness and talent. This first encounter of breakin through live performance is similar to Tranquil Productions’ director, Lloyd Thompson’s first experience of breakin 12 years prior and it was like history repeating itself.
Spider attended Bowling Park Primary school and trained intensely with Tranquil almost everyday along with many other pupils, from early years, right through to her leaving for high school. Her talent and skills were evident, she possessed incredible strength, flexibility and toughness, which was a perfect combination for breakin. Her ability to learn power moves was a rare find and this quickly put her on the map.
Spider represented with the breakin youth of Bradford, with a crew called Dirty South formed through Tranquil Productions. Hard work, dedication and passion eventually led to her becoming a member of the Clean North Crew and this is when things really began to take off. Breakin made a huge impact on Spiders life and elevated her in her own community and within the UK breakin scene. She got work performing regularly around the UK for festivals, events and functions and battled up and down the country. One of her early dreams was to meet Bgirl Terra, not only did she get to meet her but she got to battle against Terra and Eddie with bgirl Fox (long term mentor and guide) in a 2v2. The battle took place over 8 years ago and can be viewed on Tranquil Productions YouTube channel, with over 167K views, it just shows what a battle this was and still gets regular views today. On the same note, one of her more recent aspirations was to meet the legendary powermover, Bboy Pocket (Monster Energy, Mover, South Korea) and Spider got to meet him too and have an in depth conversation with Pocket learning vital tips earlier this year at Breakin Convention, Blackpool Grand Theatre. It marked another momentous occasion in her breakin journey.
Spider developed much further, honing her skills and building a stronger bond with Clean North. Thanks to God through the gift of breakin and hip hop culture, she visited many places and praise God, she was able to experience many things that would not have been possible otherwise. It gave her a real focus, drive and passion. The strength and discipline she gained also transferred into other areas having a positive effect on her studies and other sporting activities. She became a member of Bradford City Girls and was a star player for a few seasons, however because of her massive dedication, she decided to stop football to fully focus on her breakin career. We are very grateful she did and the result of this choice is really showing, especially over the last two years. She has kept growing in popularity and many doors have opened to her, she was even featured in an exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture park as part of Hardeep Singh Sahota’s work.
Spider is in breakin for the long run and this really showed when she battled at the Bradford Brawl 2022 and took the title in the final against Ammo. It was a hard road up, she was in a pool of 8 bboy/bgirls that had all earned Breaker of the month titles. She didn’t say too much in the months leading up to the battles but just enough to know she had a strong will and wasn’t going to take the battles lightly. She really crept up under the radar and captured the audience with her amazing moves and style. What an amazing moment it was! These battles can also be viewed on Tranquil Productions YouTube channel.
Spider has started to travel more internationally and has just got back from a recent trip as an invited bgirl in Dublin, Ireland. She was one of 5 UK bgirls showcasing an exhibition battle against 5 of the top Irish bboys and they really represented strong. Fox and Labyrinth from Clean North were also part of the team and Nat and Emily from London. A few weeks before this the trio Fox, Labyrinth and Spider also battled in Gloucestershire at the Kids Breakin League Championships making a massive impact at the event and reaching the semi-final. The following week they took the win in Wales at Avant Cymru, battling against other great crews such as Payback Season and Just 4 Funk, what an amazing experience to witness. She also won 2 other battles earlier in 2023, a solo in Leeds at Speak to the Streets during a festival and a 2v2 with bboy Elijah at Battle of Briggate.
One of the most incredible things is seeing spider develop into a top instructor for Tranquil Productions. This was another one of her dreams and she is now helping people all over Bradford and making a massive impact benefiting children, young people and adults with her knowledge and skills. She is an amazing person with a very caring and strong personality. She is a bgirl!
There has been so much we could speak about and hopefully in the future we can write more about spider and her journey but please like, follow and subscribe to our pages and channels below to keep in touch and hear more about the Tranquil Productions family and the breakin scene. We want to congratulate Spider once again for her amazing achievements, we hope and pray she goes from strength to strength. Some of the bboy/bgirls from Tech Styles Central class have been working together as a team to put together a great compilation clip of Spider doing her thing. This promo features different clips from over the years along with some footage that they shot recently.
